Funny we don't hear a lot about these stories from the major media. Then again, who am I to judge, as I no longer pay much attention to the 'major media'.
In this one, we see that 'Somali pirates' have gotten bolder, moving farther out to sea and capturing far larger and more valuable ships. This time a supertanker with a full load of crude oil. In the story, we hear the various pirates have ten to twelve captured ships on hand most of the time while negotiating ransoms.
Is it just me, or does this seem a sign of civilization slipping away? Organized criminal piracy on the high seas... as opposed to organized government piracy.
Just thinking out loud.

Shrugged, it's been there for at least 38 years that I personally know of... We were fighting that crap in the early '70s. The only difference is the media is finally starting to cover it. It wasn't covered before, since that would impact the shipping/cruise lines. There still is a huge problem in the Malacca Straits also. That is why the Brits still have a presence in Singapore, and so does the US Navy. Friend of mine was the CO of a US Sub, they tried to hijack them in the late 90's!
Seems to me it's sounding more and more like "Atlas Shrugged".
NFO, Is there a reason Q ships are not being used in the Somali area?
We need some yardarms and decorate them with some pirates. We could start with Jack Sparrow and work up from there.
