Tigger
Because Tigger's bounce

Faithful family dog, and my sons closest friend, for many years. Tigger weighed 110 pounds, and would happily rip the heart out of anyone who threatened the family. On the other hand, he was scared of kittens, and would hide behind us when baby cats were around. Full grown cats, he loved, and would lick them till they were soppy messes.

Tigger was so strong..... he was often out in the yard on a wire lead, and sometimes would drag the anchor out of the ground without noticing. Once, I thought I would it would be intelligent to attach the wire to an eyelet screwed into a landscaping wall. Stacked railroad ties, in place for years. On the first day, we found the wall crumbled and Tigger 100 yards away, still with the railroad tie at the end of his lead. I think he saw a rabbit, and wanted to play with it.

Our dogs become as our children, our friends, our family. They know us, and we know them. Now, another friend passes. I may not do this again, have a my own dog. Too many times in this life I have had to say goodbye, both to four legged and two legged friends, and family.

Your story brought back a funny memory. We were camping and the people across the way had this Bassett hound which reminded me of Boss Hogg's dog on the Duke's Of Hazard. Anyway, his owners had an eyelet screwed to a tree, and the dog's chain attached to that. There was a walker that would come by and laugh at the dog, calling him Flash, etc. After several times, the dog finally had enough and took off after the man. The man thought it was funny, until the point at which the eyelet popped out of the tree. Apparently the hound found something he wanted to play with as well.

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope for the day in which your grief is overwhelmed with nothing but the comforting memories of times spent with your friends, both two and the four legged variety.

Shrugged,

I am so sorry to hear about Tigger. Sounds like he led a full life and enjoyed it all. Minus the kittens, maybe.

Labs are awesome dogs. I bet the sun in dog heaven rose this morning over the biggest, juiciest bunch of ducks he ever saw.

Think about life without that kind of a companion, it becomes way too old and way too lonely, which is why we find another fine furry friend, that doesn't need to talk, just to play and stay - all day. Thanks for Tigger's story and I am sorry about your loss, but very happy you had Tigger in your life.

Having had at least one Airedale(and many mutts) share our house for the past 35 years...I know where you are coming from. Reagan, our Airedale, is 10 1/2, and as I approach 60, I don't know if I can stand the pain of doing this all again.

I lost the Best Dog Ever in 2005, and I don't think I could handle such pain ever again. So sorry for your loss.
