Photographing firearms

These few images cost me several hours, all told. Today I worked on some photography techniques I've been reading about, using lights, diffusers, a background, and some other tricks.

I like the results, but it rubbed my nose in a few points. My camera could be better, and my skills need a lot of work.

Hmmm, I curious. What did you use for a background. The few photos I've taken on pistols were outside on the steps of my deck. I found that light overcast days were best softening the shadows.

The back ground is a muslin cloth.
The pistol was balanced on a 12 gauge shell to raise it above the cloth, and the camera above all that on a tripod.

Lighting above and to each side, both natural and artificial.

Overcast days do well for firearms photography, but I can't count on them (g).
